Review | Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer

Primer straight from the tube | Primer blended into my skin
Rimmel London Fix & Perfect Primer 002 £6.99

When I featured this Rimmel primer in this haul, I got some feedback that I should review it! This is the first face primer I have ever bought as after using my mini The Porefessional sample I got free in Glamour a couple months ago and I've realised I have been missing out! I bought this in a 2 for £10 deal at Superdrug, so was able to try this for £5. Primers are used to create a base for your makeup and are able to do a whole load of things such as fill in pores, wrinkles and allow your makeup to be smoother and last longer.

This primer is white with a creamy consistency that feels like a smooth moisturiser. When it's applied to the skin it hasn't got that silicon feel that some primers, such as the Collection 2000 one which I tested in Boots, have. This primer doesn't feel like it's clogging up your pores but just providing a smoother base for your face makeup to be applied to. This product blends nicely into your skin. I don't rub it in like a moisturiser but just place it on to my skin and gently spread it out. If you rub it in too much it will just absorb into your skin and not work as well. Since using this I have noticed that my makeup remains looking fresher than usual, and when using Maybelline's BB Cream (review coming soon!) it stayed on my skin well and kept some coverage. Usually I have bad experiences with BB Creams but I think this primer helped the product to stay on my face for once.

Rimmel claim that this primer can be used on its own or under makeup. I personally wouldn't use it on its own because it leaves a shine to my skin, which I really don't like, I prefer a matte finish. However after applying foundation, concealer and powder, the shine does disappear. They also claim this primer does 5 things to your skin: "Smooths, Resurfaces, Brightens, Mattifies and Protects".
I agree that it smooths and resurfaces as my skin feels softer after using it.
I am unsure if it brightens and protects as my skin seemed the same to me.
But I completely disagree it mattifies as I still had shiny patches! However this will depend on your skin type. I have dry/ sensitive skin so this may work differently if you have oilier skin.

I am unsure whether I'll repurchase this product again, maybe if it was on offer again. At the moment I do like it and it hasn't broken me out or anything, but I would like to try some more before I settle with one primer.

Have you tried this Rimmel primer before? What are your views on it?

  3. Great review! I'm still on the look out for a decent primer - I've tried quite a few and they've all made my makeup go on worse. I have quite dry skin and they tend to dry it out a bit so when I put foundation on top it goes all patchy! Must give this one a go, though I have been lusting after the ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer mainly because the packaging's so nice LOL!

    1. Definitely give it a go :) I don't think it's as good as Porefessional, I think you get a much smoother base with it but I guess you should with a £23 price tag! xx

  8. After reading this post I may give this a try. Im just kinda branching out into primer-ville and feel like this might be a good (& cheap!) one to start at! I normally have quite a good reaction to Rimmel products to, so fingers crossed!

  10. Just followed your blog, I think it is so cute! :)

I love this primer so much, I don't wear liquid foundation so I need something to keep my powder on all day when I'm rushing around at uni and this works amazingly!

Thanks for the brilliant review :) x
